Learn more about the Chihuahua.
Godiva was surrendered by someone who had too many dogs. Poor thing lived most of her life in a crate with little attention. Regardless, she is shy but friendly, and enjoys attention. She is a XS quintessential chihuahua and weighs about 8 pounds. She has been quiet as a mouse in her foster home, not yappy. She has a spunky and playful personality and loves following her favorite humans around all day. She bonds VERY closely to one person in the home and will avoid interactions with anyone but her favorite people! She LOVES to be held and snuggled, especially in a blanket (total lap dog). She loves belly rubs and will “ask” to be pet by extending her tiny paw toward you and sometimes even giving a little kiss. How could you say no? Kids’ loudness and energy scare her but she won’t snap or bite in response. Although she not aggressive with kids we feel she would do best with no small children in the home since she just loves adults! She gets along with our resident small dogs and ignores our cat. She would do best in a home with another confident dog to show her the ropes, but don’t expect her to play much with a fur sibling for several weeks before she settles into the home. She is all about her “ human person”. She sleeps throughout the night in her crate on a plush dog bed. She does not mind her puppy pen or her crate as long as she has a soft and warm place to sleep in it. Her hair is very short, so she gets cold easily. She hardly sheds at all. She seems to be housebroken but needed some time to understand where and when to go potty! She does well off-leash in our unfenced yard and does not run away. Godiva tested positive for heartworm disease, and she is going through the “slow kill” method of treatment. The disease is only transmissible by infected mosquitos and is NOT transmissible to other dogs within the home as long as other dogs are on monthly heartworm prevention. All medications will be provided. She is currently in a foster home in New Smyrna Beach where she will be very loved until she finds her forever home.
