Alex was found as a stray in Georgia, extremely emaciated. He is an adorable, bouncy pup with lots of energy. He is always up for a game of tug, catch, or just running around with you. When it is time to sleep, he is a bump on a log though! He is snuggly and gives the sweetest, gentlest kisses. He loves to sleep under me while I work. He is 37lbs but I’m not sure where the weight goes, he is long and lean and curls up into the tightest, littlest ball to sleep.
He is potty trained and crate trained. He walks extremely well on a leash, but if you get a little too far from home he starts to get nervous. He needs an owner that will give him reassurance and confidence on walks and in car rides, that he will always return home with you. Our 3 year old can walk him on a leash, that’s how good he is! He is curious about new things, but too nervous to explore on his own or takes time to slowly explore on his own. If you ask him to lay down, 9 times out of 10, he will flip on his back for belly rubs.
He is extremely intelligent. He asks to go potty by pawing at his leash or the back door. If his water bowl is empty, he paws it to flip so you hear the noise. He rarely barks, mostly when he is trying to get the other dogs to play. He does not take the hint when our older dog wants him to stop playing, so another dog similar in age or energy who wants a playmate would be best. He has started to respond to the command “Alex, enough” when the playing needs to calm down.
He does not seem to be a fan of water and has no interest in getting in a pool to swim. He LOVES having a backyard to bounce around in. We want a furever home with a fencecd yard as Alex can be an escape artist. He is fast and springy – we joke that he is part springbok! He cannot be left alone outside, he does not like it and will dig holes or beg to come in if you are not with him.
He would do excellent with another dog or by himself. I think he would do fine with cats, he doesn’t seem to be too motivated by outside animals. He LOVES people and enjoys meeting them on walks.
Alex is incredibly sweet and deserves a family that can give him the attention he deserves. His ideal home is a single family home with a secured fenced yard (he can be an escape artist till he trusts).
